Are CEOs and senior executives in Singapore adequately remunerated? What key criteria should companies use to determine the pay of a company's top executives?

IF YOU benchmark the remuneration of similarly-sized companies in other parts of the world (except maybe the US), I should think most CEOs and senior executives of large corporations in Singapore are adequately compensated. The story is quite different for SMEs. Most CEOs of SMEs pay themselves minimal salaries in order to maximise profits for the companies. These CEOs could be incentivised by also being owners of the companies.

Different companies use different key performance indicators (KPIs) - eg, net profits, return on equity - to measure the remuneration of top executives. Ultimately, the board must decide which KPIs are most suitable for the company - given the industry and environment in which it operates.
